What is going on with your water?

Start with what you see

Measure your values first, because the same symptom can have two causes. Once you know your values, this list points you in the right direction.

Algae in my tank

Usually there is too much phosphate or nitrate in your water. Measure both: if phosphate is the outlier, PO4 Remover is the shortest route. If both nitrate and phosphate are too high, Reef Fuel tackles them together.

Nitrate or phosphate too high

Reef Fuel lowers nitrate and phosphate together, with a fast and a slow release so your values do not swing up and down. For phosphate alone, use PO4 Remover.

Nitrate or phosphate too low

At zero nitrate or phosphate growth stops and corals lose their colour: there is nothing left to feed on. NO 3+ and PO4+ bring your values back up. You usually use them together, because the ratio has to be right.

Water cloudy or yellow

Zeodetox makes the water clearer and takes out the yellow tinge. At the same time it binds heavy metals and ammonia, so it often addresses the cause rather than just the view.

Starting a new tank

In a fresh tank nothing is in balance yet. A single dose of Reef Elixer replenishes what your corals use: KH, calcium, magnesium and trace elements, with bacteria that help the system get going.

Questions about dosing and measuring

How do I know how much to dose?
The dosage is on the label of every bottle, with the amount per hundred litres. Always start on the low side and build up slowly: your aquarium needs time to adjust, and a change that is too fast does more harm than a value that is not yet perfect.
Do I need to test my water first?
Yes. The same symptom can have different causes, and without measuring you do not know whether to lower or raise nitrate or phosphate. You are welcome to bring a water sample to the shop in Sneek and we will look at it together.
Can I use several products at the same time?
Often yes, and sometimes that is the intention: you usually use NO 3+ and PO4+ together because the ratio between both values has to be right. If you are unsure about a combination, just ask; that is quicker than finding out by trial.
Why would I want to raise nitrate or phosphate?
Because zero is not the goal. Corals and plants need nutrients; at zero nitrate or phosphate growth stops and corals lose their colour. The target values for fresh and saltwater are on the label of NO 3+ and PO4+.
